CanSkate:
Learn-to-Skate

 

Action, Movement, Fun! Skate Canada’s flagship program for learning to skate. For beginners as well as for those wishing to improve their basic skills for figure skating, hockey, speed skating or recreational skating. Must be 4 years of age as of September 1st, 2023.

  • Online registration.

  • NCCP-trained professional coaches, assisted by trained program assistants.

  • Balance, control and agility skills taught in six stages of learning.

  • Badges, ribbons and other incentives to mark skaters’ progress and reward effort and participation.

  • Group format.

  • Skaters progress at their own rate.

  • Active learning, upbeat music, motivational environment.

 

CanPowerSkate

 

An action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations.

  • Online registration.

  • For hockey/ringette players.

  • Geared to skaters aged approximately six or older who already have basic forward and backward skating skills and can stop on command without use of the boards or have passed CanSkate Stage 3. 

  • For safety reasons participants should wear full hockey/ringette equipment that is CSA approved. 

STARSkate:
Figure Skating 

 

Develop fundamental figure skating skills in Free Skate, Ice Dance, Skating Skills and Artistic Skating. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Performance and competition events available.

  • Online registration.

  • Figure skates only (no hockey skates).

  • All figure skating programs include an off-ice (dryland) class.

  • Junior -  Must have passed CanSkate Stage 5 badge.

  • Intermediate - Must have passed any two STAR tests AND Junior Free Skate 3 badge.

  • Advanced -Must have passed STAR 5 Free or Member of Axel Club or STAR 6 Skills or complete set of STAR 6 Dances.

  • Elite - Must have passed STAR 6 Freeskate or Member of any Double Jump Club or Star 8 Skills or complete set of STAR 7 Dances.

 

Ice Dance Elite

 

Dance Development Program - Ice Dance Session specifically for single skaters who are looking to improve their fitness, flexibility and skating skills with a view to competitive ice dance. Skaters must have permission from their base coach.
